Get Ya Head Right

An aim of the event is to generate short films suitable for digital propagation that deliver useful mental health and wellbeing messages.
We invite you to participate in this new and unique event aimed at harnessing the natural talent of Australia’s young people to assist in maintaining the mental health and wellbeing of our young people.
Popular culture is in a constant state of change and young people are often at the leading edge of that change. Some of these changes are extremely positive, such as the technological revolution that has spawned the information age, the internet and digital consciousness. While other developments are profoundly damaging such as cyberbullying, binge drinking, high-risk sexual activity, increasing rates of youth depression, self harm and suicide. This initiative is designed to facilitate both awareness of, discussion about and the development of useful resources for young people to maintain and protect their mental health and wellbeing.
The process of researching and making the film requires young people to improve their understanding of the issues and how it may affect not only themselves but also their peers, friends, family and community. By doing it at school, for example, the project will catalyse increased awareness and action to control those factors that negatively or positively contribute to mental health and wellbeing of their peers and school community.
The excitement and collective attention that a national competition generates will encourage further attention, action, innovation and constructive action in this area.
The fact that these films will be made by young people for young people will not only provoke interest but also maximise the potential of these resources to connect deeply with their target group.
