This chapter was prepared by The Butterfly Foundation for Eating Disorders, drawing on the resources developed by the National Eating Disorders Collaboration (NEDC). The NEDC is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health. The NEDC is a collaboration of people and organisations with expertise in the field of eating disorders, whose primary purpose is to develop a nationally consistent, evidence-based approach to the prevention and management of eating disorders across Australia.
This chapter will provide an overview of eating disorders in adolescence and young adults. Readers will gain an understanding of what eating disorders are, how to recognise the warning signs and how to support someone with an eating disorder.
