The world of children’s pageants have put a whole new meaning to the phrase ‘let’s play children’s dress ups”. It seems that some mother’s think their little girls would rather be dressed up with fake boobs or as prostitutes rather than Snow White, an angel or a fairy.
In the US recently a mother entered her 3 year old daughter into a pageant dressed as a prostitute, taking her inspiration from Julia Robert’s character in the film Pretty Woman.
The little girl Paisley, was then required to ‘strut her stuff’ just like a real pro in front of the judges. It made great television for the hit American cable show Toddlers and Tiaras.
Wendy Dickey, mother of Paisley told entertainment website TMZ that she feels that the outfit ‘is a lot less harmful…and less revealing than gymnastics wear and swimsuits.’ Her mother seems to have missed the point that she is asking her daughter to emulate and imitate a hooker.

This seems to be the norm in the world of child pageants. Recently another mum dressed her daughter, Maddy Jackson, up as Dolly Parton. While it is nice to pay tribute to this iconic American country singer, is it really necessary to make her daughter wear breast and bottom enhancements?
It seems that only the child’s stylist found this freaky and uncomfortable. In the TV episode stylist Michael Booth told Maddy “I think you’re cute and you would be just as cute without those, don’t you?”
But sadly he was out voted with the judges and mum saying it was ‘cute’. So of course Maddy also thought she looked ‘cute’ by taking her cues from the adults around her.
Her mother Lindsay Jackson said “When she wears the fake boobs and the fake butt it’s just like an added, extra bonus.”
“And it’s really funny when she comes out on stage and everyone thinks it’s hysterical because they all of sudden realise that not only is she Dolly, she has the enhancements just like Dolly has. We tend to score really well with it all the way around.”
She added “To some people it’s over the top. To us it’s just what happens, it’s just normal.”
“As judges we all thought it was cute that Maddy came in dressed as Dolly Parton,” one judge said.
Lindsay seems oblivious to the fact that she is presenting Maddy as a sex symbol to adult judges and inviting other adults to see her in a sexual way. At the same time she is sending the message to her daughter that if you look and dress like this you will get people’s attention. The question is: is that the sort of attention a 4 year old girl should be aspiring to?
