Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, arising from the exposure of the developing baby to alcohol while in the mother’s womb, is becoming recognised as a potential cause for some of the behaviuoral and related disorders of young people that we see in ever greater numbers in our schools and homes. As the evidence regarding the exquisite sensitivy of the brain and other developing organs to the deletrious impacts of alcohol grows, so too does the imperative for pregnant women to completely avoid alcohol during their pregnancy.

The Government has just announced an inquiry on this issue scheduled for this year
