The Mannequin Project aims to raise awareness about body image and to generally start a new, more positive conversation. Not just reporting on the stats, actually getting to the root of why we (men, women, boys, girls, transgenders etc) are generally dissatisfied with our appearance.
We created this video to show how ‘negative self talk’ can play out in our lives. We want to spark a new type of conversation about body dissatisfaction and we thought this was a great place to start. So please tell us what you think and check out our crowd funding campaign at http://www.startsomegood.com/tmp
Fantastic video, would love to show the video if there were no swearing in it. If parents swear like that it kind of condones it for the students
Any chance of an edit?
I appreciate the emotive aspects portrayed by the language but it does limit my use of this fantastic resource with my year 9 students. Agree with the above comment.
Love the short film and it shows how we are really thinking about our bodies, especially in regards to comparing ourselves with others.. It really is such a shame that we find it so hard to say what we love about our bodies. Good luck with this venture may you have many successes in breaking down this needless belief and thought process that so many have each and everyday.
Thank you to the Generation Next team for sharing our video and also for the great feedback in the comments below from Helen, John and Simone. This video highlights negative self-talk and the effects it has on body dissatisfaction. Whilst it is an exaggerated version and taken to the extreme, The Mannequin Project will also be creating more engaging content and educational resources for schools. We therefore are so grateful for any feedback from teaching professionals and appreciate your support and advice as we progress through this journey.

We’re asking teachers in particular to help us bring The Mannequin Project to life by donating $19 to our crowd-funding campaign. $19 specifically as this is often the cost of a paper-back book. Because we’re only asking educators for this amount, every $19 we receive will tell us exactly how many teachers donated to the initiative.
This will help us to encourage funding from government and other caring organisations so we can create a range of terrific in-school videos that are suitable for discussions between kids, teachers and parents. A little bit of talk goes a long way, so if this project resonates with you, please feel free to share our videos and donate.
