The evidence for warning labels on alcohol products is strong, yet there is considerable opposition from industry. This is despite the fact that it is highly likely that the community will benefit.

The sun herald has just run a story on it, in which 4 points of view were presented- 3 of them were against warning lables (the wine producer, the industry representative and an alcohol consumer) while one was in favour (the alcohol campaigner). This is hardly balanced reporting since those who are opposed all have a vested interest of one sort or another in maintaining the status quo.

So we’ve decided to give you the argument in favour of alcohol warning labels, since it is in fact the right thing to do for our society and especially our young people. If you want to read the, often factually incorrect and heavily biased, views of the naysayers then click on the link for the full article.

You can also monitor the online opinion poll asking readers whether or not they think alcohol warning labels should be implemented. At the moment it’s a clear majority in favor of warning labels. Have your say too by going to the article and indicating which option you support!
