A new film produced by the federal government deals with the very real dangers of teenage online life and the digital profile they are creating.

Tagged – What you do online could tag you for life looks at the consequences of cyber bullying and how antisocial Social Networking Sites (SNS) really are.

Everything from an innocent photo sent via a mobile phone to sexting and hate pages on Facebook leaves an online trail which cannot be wiped out.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) commissioned Melbourne production company Great Southern Communications to make Tagged and it will be available to all schools.

“The Gillard Government takes the safety and security of all Australians, especially our young, very seriously,” Communications Minister Mr Stephen Conroy said.

The scenes in the film include a fight captured on a mobile phone and posted online and teenagers taking nude photos of each other and sending them to others.

The film shows young people how to protect their digital reputation.

Communications Minister Mr Stephen Conroy said “That is why we are committed to working with schools, parents and young people to help teenagers be smart online and to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to safely enjoy the benefits of the internet.”

Tagged was developed by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) under this plan. It is a valuable film that I encourage all young people and teachers to see.”

Tagged can be viewed online now at Cybersmart or can be ordered for free from the Cybersmart website.

The film is accompanied by lesson plans, activities and character interviews for use in schools which promote positive online behaviour.
