Concerns about lack of self esteem and poor body image are driving many women to drink before they engage in sex with their partners. It is their way of feeling more comfortable with their bodies and helps them be more adventurous between the sheets, a recent UK study discovered.

“The fact alcohol plays an integral role in their love lives shows that women are looking for a boost in self-esteem when it comes to their bedroom antics,” said Kathryn Lakeland of Femfresh who conducted the study.

“But in doing so many women will be losing self-control, and this is when drunken one-night stands are more likely to occur.”

Almost half of those questioned said they preferred sex while under the influence of alcohol because it helped them lose their inhibitions and be more adventurous.

Ms Lakeland surveyed 3,000 women aged 18-50, and found that on average they slept with eight men, but were drunk with at least five, and on two occasions couldn’t remember the man’s name the next day.

She said “These results are a clear indication that British women today are severely lacking in confidence.”

“While many women claim they only drink before sex because it is part of the dating process, a large percentage will actually refuse to get between the sheets without a bit of Dutch courage.”

She concluded that “This demonstrates that women feel unable to let their hair down and fully enjoy themselves without something to fuel their inhibitions.”

It also revealed 14% of women in a relationship can’t sleep with their partner without a couple of glasses of wine beforehand.
