The Baird Government has been criticised for recently regulating the practice of eyeball tattooing, as the New South Wales Opposition calls for a ban on the procedure.
The Opposition said the tattooing, also known as eyeball inking, was effectively legalised when it was included in a number of health amendments enacted last Friday.
The amendment declares that “eyeball tattooing, tongue piercing and tongue tattooing are skin penetration procedures”.
The procedure involves injecting the whites of the eyes, or sclera, with coloured dye or dyes.

Tattooing eyes, pinpoints just how decadent western society has become.
Before anyone thinks about having an eye tattoo, they should visit any aged care facility to find out just how unnecessary this idle and non reversible pursuit is. Rapidly, the notion of just how lucky you are to have a working body will hurtle you into the right direction. Grow and live as naturally as possible.
I am passionate about free speech and the unbridled expression of the individual. However, to pursue and accept the injection of a needle into precious eyes, indicates that the individual is not exercising their right of freedom. They are not free thinking at all!
It is clear they are misguided. A combination of peer pressure, insidious fashion trends and influence from greedy money makers, makes these uncentered people, easy targets.
I believe they may have mental health issues. I suggest this, because of a lack of acceptance of their own natural self image.
Definitely, the government needs to expedite matters, to make this act unlawful. Any tattoo artist, who violates this should be banned for one year from their profession and heavily fined.
Also, our health system should not be burdened to correct this or any other unnecessary procedures.
Attention to funding for vulnerable youth, intense scrutiny of DOCS and other similar organizations, must be examined continuously, so that the children of now are the strong of tomorrow.
If this is not attended to, diabolical trends will continue to trap the unaware and add to the tragedy to our society.
Ban eye tattooing immediately.
